Background
Eden EMC is delighted to share the completion of a comprehensive refurbishment project at High Arcal School in Dudley. Our team was tasked with the complete overhaul of the school’s reception area, main thoroughfare corridor, and the library/learning resource centre.
The project aimed to create a more welcoming and functional space for students and staff alike.
01 – Classroom Upgrade
02 – Corridors
Solution
The project initiated with a strategic strip out and refurbishment of the school’s open lobby and reception area. Here, we introduced a new automatic door entry system, significantly expanding and enhancing the reception space to create a more inviting entry point into the building.
This area was transformed with the installation of new ceilings, elegant oak doors and frames, durable new vinyl flooring, a circular reception desk compliant with the Equality Act 2010, and a thorough redecoration.
In the main thoroughfare corridor, which leads off from the reception area, we installed sophisticated frameless glass balustrading atop a raised seating area. This not only improved aesthetics but also functionality.
We also updated the lighting, ceilings, and installed new vinyl flooring and oak doors here, with our in-house decorating team ensuring a high-quality finish throughout. This scope was then extended to the library/learning resource center, which included the addition of multiple power and data totem poles to support new workstations.
Result
Before commencing these extensive refurbishments, our approved asbestos contractors skillfully removed low-risk asbestos floor tiles in a controlled environment, ensuring the safety of the reception and corridor areas.
The project was strategically scheduled during the summer term when the school was mostly unoccupied. Despite this, we implemented rigorous safety procedures, particularly during periods when teachers and students visited the campus. This included cordoning off and creating zoned areas for safe pedestrian passage.
Working within educational settings demands a high level of staff vetting, such as CRB checks. At Eden EMC, our staff and operatives undergo rigorous screening from the outset, making us uniquely suited to handle sensitive projects within educational institutions.
This project at High Arcal School not only enhanced the aesthetic and functional aspects of the space but also showcased our commitment to safety and suitability for educational environments.
